[ He can feel his heart pounding hard behind his chest as sweat begins to surface to his skin as he contemplates what kind of person that Kabru has matched him with. Matched him, without asking! This is crap that reminds him of his father and mother, and how they pressured him to settle down, get married and have offspring.
What did it matter if he didn’t have a partner now? Why do people care so much? ]
Kabru.. I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like a good idea.
[ Laios he just wants you to meet someone nice and build a bond and maybe have more friends so that when you become dungeon lord you don't decide to wipe out humanity......... Kabru was also having too much fun, but now he's realising that he might have jumped the gun. ]
[ oh whoa what.. he’s not even?? trying to hide any of that? ]
It’s always been that way. I only had Falin as someone I could trust and have company with up until I got a dungeon party. Even then, I met Marcille through Falin, and Chilchuck.. well, I don’t really know how much he really likes any of us.
Being put in a social event with somebody I don’t even know.. that’s a lot of pressure! He probably won’t like me. What will we even talk about?
[ Laios looks to be opening up, and Kabru feels like he needs to take this seriously - not with any shallow farce or meaningless pleasantries. How should he respond to this? What's standing out to him is that he doesn't seem to have a problem with the concept of building that connection at all. It's more the fear that the other person won't like him.
Well, Kabru obviously didn't pick someone who would cast judgement or say cruel things to Laios. Quite the opposite. He's confident in his judgement of Zagreus and knows that they are kind and very understanding. That's why he thought they would be a good match. Before he goes into that, he should probably address what's being said to him. ]
Laios ... I've seen parties disband over disputes or clashes in personality. Your party is small, which is risky in itself, but you made it so far. That's not possible if the people within the party haven't built strong bonds. If they didn't like you, they wouldn't follow you.
I don't think it's true you're not a likeable person. [ Because he -- wait, why is he so sure of that? The obvious answer is that he's liked spending time with him so far, and he's curious about him, but he doesn't know how to express that. ]
That’s different. That’s the point I was trying to make. Before dungeon crawling, I had no friends, but even then, I made those connections with the help of something else. My sister, for example.
This random guy you’ve set me up with.. it’s not as if I am meeting him to bring him to my party, or go adventuring with him. The point of us meeting is to— is to what? Like each other? Date each other? You don’t even know what I am looking for in a person.
In fact, I am not even “looking” for someone to date.
[ a beat.. ]
I don’t think so, at least. It’s put a lot of pressure on me, now. I have to.. what.. small talk with him? Do we even have anything in common?
The point is to meet someone new and see if you enjoy spending time together. It doesn't have to be anything more than that.
[ He was so confident he made the right match, but he probably should have took some time to pick apart Laios' apprehension around humans first. Kabru's still confident it's an excellent match though. If Laios would just give it a chance .... he's never wrong when it comes to people! ]
I acted too soon. You don't have to do anything you don't want to. I just thought you would both make good friends ...
He seems to like monsters too. He's told me about his three-headed dog and the minotaur he's friends with. [ maybe you should open with that kabru...................... ]
Okay.. but what should I wear? Does it matter? I’ve never been to a gala.
[ Well, Laios, when you’re a king, you’re going to go to a lot of them.
Also, this conversation might further prove that Laios doesn’t dislike humans in a malicious way, but maybe it’s because he’s been hurt by them and he’s apprehensive to keep trying.
And maybe it hurts so much because he cares about them too much. Quite the opposite of Kabru’s fears. ]
[ This is going the way he wants, and on top of that he's learning more about Laios. He doesn't hate humans, but he's apprehensive. Afraid of being rejected by them for trying. That's a very normal feeling that many people go through. Kabru feels more at ease now. He's also getting excited again because social communications are his special interest, and now he gets to prepare Laios for an event focused on just that. ]
It matters! What you dress tells a lot about your personality! It's a form of communication in itself.
You don't have to worry about any of that. I'll help you! And I can teach you dancing too!
I have never thought of it that way. I just like whatever is comfortable and functional for what I am doing.
[ Kabru has.. really been super attached to Laios ever since they got here, but he hasn’t really gotten angry or impatient with Laios; he even asks about his hobbies.
And now, he’s excited to help out with something like this? What a nice guy. ]
You really think of others more than you think of yourself, don’t you?
[ sorry his autistic ass will notice something like this instead of something very obvious.. like how much Kabru is wanting to be his friend. ]
[ Laios, that is already telling of your personality in itself. ]
Huh? Well, seeing how other people make connections is something like a hobby of mine. [ Does he not think about himself? (Considering how often he forgets to eat and how messy his room is, yes.) ]
[ It’s in this moment that Laios realizes that he wouldn’t mind going to something like this with Kabru. After all, he knows Kabru is a kind person to him. He could talk about monsters for hours and he knows Kabru would be happy to listen.
Laios should probably tell Kabru that he would go with him and have him as a date. That going to something like this with Kabru.. he is more comfortable with that than going with somebody he’s not ever met before, even if the guy did have a three headed dog.
Though, something prevents Laios from saying anything, but he can’t help the way his cheeks turn a little pink at the thought. ]
I don't have any other choice.. unless the person you're linking me up with also doesn't wanna dance. Maybe you could ask him about that before going through all this trouble??

I'm alright. [ enough about that. ]
I wanted to invite you to the upcoming gala, and also tell you that I've found a date for you to go with!
